What does a waiter have to do?
A waiter is vested with a number of duties and responsibilities to perform as part of his position in the restaurant. The duties of a waiter remain the same for any section in this profession which may be in dining halls, banquet halls, coffee shops etc.
Following are some of the duties and responsibilities given to a waiter:
Duties:
- The primary duty of a waiter is to take food and beverage orders from customers by answering their questions regarding their prices, substitutions, quality and quality and availability of the menu items.
- It is the duty of a waiter to deliver the food and beverages to the customers table and to ensure that they are supplied with their preferred items by making use of clean utensils.
- It forms the duty of a waiter to remove the used utensils and clean and dust the tables once the customers leave. They should also ensure that they refill sugar, salt and pepper on the table.
- It is the duty of the waiter to explain the method in which the various food items are prepared by giving a brief description on the ingredients and cooking procedures.
- They are also involved in food preparing appetizers, salads, desserts and also in brewing coffee.
- An important duty of a waiter is to prepare the table before and after the completion on every meal which includes setting up of new flowers, cutlery and new linen sheets on the table.
Responsibilities:
- It is the responsibility of a waiter to greet the guests and escort them to their tables.
- It forms the responsibility of a waiter to keep an eye on the customers to ensure that they are enjoying their food and take immediate action to correct the problems they are facing.
- They are responsible for bringing the desired wine for the customers by making use of appropriate glasses and style for pouring wine to their customers.
- Waiters are given the responsibility to supervise the stock servicing department of the restaurant and order for supplies when they get over. The stock includes coffee, food, linen table spreads and other tableware.
- These professionals are responsible for garnishing and decorating the dishes at the time of serving the prepared food.
